"BARNFIND"

We bought this Alfa Romeo Spider from 1984 for restoration and sale. The car was purchased from the first owner and has driven only 100,676 km. The car was originally bought at the Alfa Romeo dealer in Castricum, the Netherlands and then exported to the second home in Spain. The first owner had the car repainted from its original light green Aqua Celeste Pininfarina into red. The car was sold to us as being "all original", wich in reality means; everything is broken. We added over € 10.000,- on new parts, did all welding works, repainted the car in its original color, and spent in total over 800 hours of work.

We restored this car to "factory new" and offer it for sale. Follow the restoration process below.

The car came with its original booklets.

During the restoration proces we will repaint the car to it's factory original color light green. Also we will manufacture a complete new interior with the best quality Italian leather in original Portofino blue.

The Restoration:

Although the car seemed well-preserved at first sight, we still find rust in the familiar places, the water gutter of the roof, the window frame, and of course the beams.

Repair rust damage water gutter roof:

First, all rust spots were grinded away and welded/repaired. All studs, which have broken off or rusted away, have also been replaced by new M5 studs, so that the new Sonnenland top can be properly mounted again later. Then everything was painted with zink-epoxy and rubbed with Sikaflex sealant, and then again painted in epoxy primer. Finaly it was painted in the cars original color. This will never rust out again.

Repair of the windowframe:
Repair of the beams:

An inspection of the rust damage to the beams shows that "repairs" have been carried out before. This mess is covered with a thick layer of filler. We often see these kinds of repairs, but they are unacceptable for White Coast Classics, especially on a convertible car. Good box girders are after all very important to guarantee rigidity and safety.

For the repair of the beams, the outer sheet metal and the central girders have been removed. The surrounding rusted away parts have been reconstructed and the drainage has been improved compared to the factory original. After that, the inner beam, the outer sheet metal (inside) and the new center beam were put in epoxy twice, and then spraid with Amber Wax. The center beam was then secured to the factory-original spot welds. Finally, new exterior sheet metal has been welded in. A great deal of care and attention has been paid to the correct dimensions of the door seams.

All paint removed by hand, inside and outside. Spray painted in epoxy primer:
